Swim and Dive Shows Well Against Sagehens in SoCal Dual

SANTA CRUZ, Ca. – The UC Santa Cruz men's and women's swim and dive teams fought well against Pomona-Pitzer in a Friday dual with the men dropping the battle 156-79 while the women fell 156-69. The Slugs will be back in action tomorrow at noon when they take on Biola in La Mirada, California.
 
Women's Meet Highlights
  • 400 Medley Relay: Medha Raghuraman, Lily Wolfinger, Kirsten Boyle, and Katy Hawk combined for a time of 4:02.00 to take fourth.
  • 1000 Free: Piper Strickler turned in the only sub-11 performance, touching the wall in 10:49.99 to take first overall.
  • 200 Free: Maddy Gruender and Honour Dufresne took first and second in a tightly contested event with Gruender taking first in 1:58.37 while Dufresne took second in 1:59.15.
  • 200 Fly: Katy Hawk shined in the 200 fly, winning the event by over two seconds, finishing the race in 2:12.23.
  • 200 Breast: Gretta Bellin took second in the event, touching the wall in 2:28.81 overall.
  • 800 Free Relay: Gruender, Hawk, Kirsten Boyle, and Tereza Shea finished just about the 8 minute mark, touching the wall in 8:01.54 to take fourth.
 
Men's Meet Highlights
  • 400 Medley Relay: Brandon Le, Karsten Hsiao, Morgan Madril, and Kyle Reitan combined for a time of 3:31.28 to take second.
  • 1000 Free: Presley Golling took second for the Slugs with a time of 10:19.77 with Ido Haiby following closely behind for third place in 10:20.14.
  • 200 Free: Massimo Reyna won the event by just .07 seconds, touching the wall in 1:44.54.
  • 50 Free: Kyle Reitan swam to a second place finish, touching the wall in 21.23s.
  • 1m Dive: Charlie Shortt took second with 137.95 points.
  • 200 Back: Teo Truong took first overall with a time of 1:57.28.
  • 3m Dive: Charlie Shortt took second after recording 149.95 points overall.
  • 200 Breast: Karsten Hsiao swam to a second place finish with a 2:11.51.
  • 800 Free Relay: Luke Scanlon, JJ Stoen, Kent Nishida, and Israel Gonzalez took third with a time of 7:13.42.
