La Verne, CA - The UC Santa Cruz men's and women's swim and dive teams went to Southern California to participate in the Winter Invite hosted by the University of La Verne. Three records fell this weekend. Kirsten Boyle set a program record in the 200 IM with a time of 2:07.46. Asher Kates set a program record in the 100 IM with a time of 52.76. Finally, Asher Kates (24.12), Karsten Hsiao (26.24), Andrew Koika (21.70), and Kyle Reitan (19.97) swam a record 1:32.03 in the Men's 200 medley relay. The men's team ended in 2nd place after the weekend and the women came in 5th. 

Men's Team Highlights
-200- Yard Free Relay: Kyle Reitan, Andrew Koika, Charlie Hussain, and Adam Sinclair swam 1:22.63 to place third
- 200 Medley Relay: Asher Kates, Karsten Hsiao, Andrew Koika, and Kyle Reitan swam 1:32.03 to place 5th
-100 Yard Butterfly: Morgan Madril placed 4th swimming 49.69.
-200 Yard Freestyle: Massimo Reyna placed 4th in 1:40.73.
-100 Yard Backstroke: Brandon Le swam 51:39 to place 5th
-100-Yard IM: Luke Scanlon placed 4th swimming with a time of 52.98
-200 Yard Breaststroke: Karsten Hsiao placed 2nd swimming 2:05.13
-200-Yard Butterfly: Luke Scanlon placed 2nd swimming in 1:52.74
-400-Yard Butterfly: Kyle Reitan, Massimo Reyna, Andrew Koika, and Bryson Schmid placed second in swimming 3:02.98.

Women's Team Highlights
-200-Yard Free Relay:  Katy Hawk, Maddy Gruender, Phoebe Jaggers, and Tereza Shea placed 5th with a time of 1:35.79
-200- Yard IM: Kirsten Boyle set a program record with a time of 2:07.46.
-200-Yard IM: Lillian Wolfinger placed 4th with a time of 2:07.64
-200-Yard Free: Katy Hawk placed 4th with a time of 1:54.15
-200-Yard Breaststroke: Kirsten Boyle placed 5th with a time of 2:23.48
400-Yard Free Relay: Tereza Shea, Katy Hawk, Keaton Canaday, and Maddy Gruender placed 6th with a time of 3:32.90
-1/3 meter diving: Briseis Valenzuela placed 6th with 204.80 points in the 1 meter and 7th in the 3 meters with 202.50 points

The Slugs are back in the pool on January 10th versus Cal Poly at 3 pm in San Luis Obispo.
