Ashley Kowack led all scorers with 22 points, but UC Santa Cruz could not get their offense going in a 70-56 loss to hosts Mary Washington in the Coast-To-Coast Conference Tournament Semifinal.
UC Santa Cruz (17-7) went just 18-of-61 (29.5%) on their field goals. Mary Washington connected on 27-of-62 (43.5%) of their attempts to improve to 22-5 and advance to Saturday's Tournament final against undefeated Christopher Newport.
The Banana Slugs made just 3-of-15 field goals in the first quarter and had to play catchup the rest of the way. The Banana Slugs opened the fourth quarter on an 11-1 run to get within 5 at 56-51 with 7:19 remaining. However, the Eagles made clutch baskets down the stretch to stymie the comeback.
Kowack finished 7-of-18 on field goals, including three three-pointers. Fellow Senior
Kaylee Murphy finished with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Amanda Inserra scored 5 points with one three-pointer to push her new school record to 76 treys made this season.
